Immortality of the Devil

Abstract

If god exists must not also the devil exist? And if god is immortal is the devil not equally so? If humans gain earthly immortality we must assume that we will be forever accompanied by god and the devil, or, at least, by good or evil. Our ability to do evil might reside in our genes. If our mastery of genetics will ultimately allow us to exorcise evil this would be our greatest social engineering feat. But is this possible considering how closely related good and evil are? Even love has an element of egotism. If we eliminate evil we might eliminate elements that are necessary for good. Perhaps Nietzsche was right: ‘Everything good is the transmutation of something evil; every god has a devil for a father.’
