Abstract
Product designers with little to no experience with shape memory alloy (SMA) drives might encounter problems with the vast amount of possible parameters during the development of SMA drives. Therefore, this chapter, which focuses on an example of the development of a SMA pinch valve, discusses excerpts from the German VDI 2248 guideline for SMA actuator product development. The chapter focuses on system design and mechanical calculations and discusses application parameters and subsystems that can be used in the example product.
