Abstract
Requirements modeling languages are formal languages specialized for use in requirements problem solving. This chapter clarifies what a formal language is normally made of, and explains its role in problem solving in general. To give a clearer idea of where requirements modeling languages come from and look like, this chapter gives a rough historical overview of their design, discusses their broad similarities and differences, and presents two requirements modeling languages called i-star and Techne .
