Notes
- 1.
Ceres has now been re-classified as a dwarf planet. However, NASA and many textbooks still refer to it as an asteroid.
- 2.
Ceres , Vesta and Pallas are thought to be protoplanets that have survived the past 4.6 billion years.
- 3.
This shower is an enigma as its origin is currently unknown, and information about is sparse, as are observations.
- 4.
Due to the presence of a “horizontal branch” in the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram of M77, it is now classified as a relatively young (9–10 billion years), loosely concentrated globular cluster.
- 5.
The star has been observed to change slightly in brightness, possibly due to large flares, much bigger than those observed on the Sun. Thus, it has been classified as a type LC slow irregular variable star.
- 6.
As of July 2015, there are 1932 confirmed exoplanets, 1222 planetary systems and 484 multiple planets systems.
- 7.
As of July 2015, there are 10 Earth-sized exoplanets and 20 Super-Earths.
- 8.
The “odd” galaxy, NGC 7320 is a foreground object, about 40 million light years away, much closer than the others in the group, lying 290 million light years distant. It is accepted that it is a just a foreground object in the field of view.
