Abstract

ArcGIS provides a palette of sophisticated tools for processing and analyzing geographic data. There are several ways in which these tools can be used. For example, ArcToolbox tools can be run from ArcToolbox by clicking on the tool and filling out a form to specify the parameters; they can be run from ModelBuilder Models, and they can be run from Python scripts using the arcpy package. This chapter discusses ArcToolbox, ModelBuilder, ArcCatalog, Python’s ArcGIS capabilities, the arcpy package, arcpy functions, and environment settings.
