Abstract

The Japanese system of care for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities does provide a reasonable degree of care, but there are certain problems with the system. For example, the area of medical care needs improvement as it only provides a minimum level of care and there is a need to change legislature so that the government funding system is updated to take into account the longer lifespan and provide a suitable level of care. Only when these areas have been improved can we say that a proper system is in place to care for these individuals.
