Abstract

The education of children with developmental disabilities is sophisticated in the United States. This is a change from the past when neglect and abuses from institutionalization were common. Children with developmental disabilities are now educated with typically developing peers as much as possible. Several laws including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), have safeguarded preventing discrimination and segregation. Many services in school environments are available to support students with developmental disabilities.
