Abstract
This chapter offers an overview for the aging face and its surgical management, with an emphasis on rhytidectomy. The pathophysiology of the aging face is described. The anatomy of the superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS) and the facial nerve for the facelift surgeon is reviewed. Various rhytidectomy techniques including limited facelift procedures and extended facelift procedures (long flap technique, lateral SMASectomy, deep plane, composite, supra-SMAS, and extended supra-SMAS) are reviewed. The midface lift is reviewed. Facelift incisions and an overview of male rhytidectomy are reviewed. The management of the aging neck is described reviewed. Finally, the utility of adjunct procedures such as fat transfer is described.
