Abstract
When performed in concert, analgesia and conscious sedation allow the performance of procedures that may be otherwise poorly tolerated by patients of all ages. Herein is provided a brief summary of the medications and techniques required to perform sedation and analgesia in a safe and effective manner. Additionally, techniques of regional anesthesia, avoidance of complications in sedation and analgesia, and special circumstances including malignant hyperthermia and operating room fires are discussed.
