Abstract
LC-39 represented the pinnacle of American technological prowess in the space race. State-of-the-art computers, remotely controlled equipment handling millions of gallons of cryogenic propellants, and facilities and vehicles of unimaginable scale and complexity came into being at KSC in just a few short years. This chapter will help the reader understand what work was like at the launch pad, with much of the story told directly in the colorful words of men and women who worked there.
