Abstract
In the Federal Republic of Germany, more than 719,535 people were employed in the automotive industry in 2011. The industry branch generated an overall turnover of about 351 billion Euros according to the German Federal Transport Authority (German: Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt), and 20 billion were spent on research and development [BMWi, 2012].
