Abstract

This chapter investigates the important factors on the maritime accidents in the harbors and waters surrounding Taiwan. Based on the collected data including wind, wave, tide, current, and maritime accidents, a regression model is used to discover the influential factors on the maritime accidents. It is found that various ports in Taiwan have different influential factors on the maritime accidents. Finally, some useful suggestions are given to the managers of harbors and the decision makers of governmental maritime departments to increase the navigation safety of ships in the harbors and waters surrounding Taiwan.
