Abstract
This chapter provides an overview of short-bowel syndrome (SBS) and pathophysiological considerations related to the remaining bowel anatomy in these patients. Additionally, a review of intestinal adaptation and factors that may enhance the adaptive process are also be discussed. Relevant data on the development of intestinal adaptation are reviewed as the general management of SBS, and potential complications are be presented.
