Abstract
The United States and Canada, as the largest bilateral business partners in the world, recently signed a historic free trade pact agreement. This paper examines the effects of this pact on U.S. and Canada. The removal of tariff and non-tariff barriers would impact on trade, investment, and competition in the two countries. Canadian companies may benefit from enlarged markets and increased opportunities for gaining economies of scale advantages. The pact could enable U.S. companies to rationalize production, distribution and marketing in North America. U.S. Industries that are import sensitive and/or have significantly different tariffs than Canada would be affected the most.
