Physician Champions

Abstract

Some traditional hospital medical staff structures, appear to have become irrelevant to healthcare in the twenty-first century. A number of the elected medical staff leaders, in our nation’s hospitals are fighting the battles of the 1980s and 1990s. They have not accepted the principles of patient centered care and hospital high reliability. Consequently, physician champions have become the third way of medical staff leadership. Physician Coaches are a type of physician champion.
