Abstract

This chapter covers the numerical modeling of carbon nanotubes based on the finite element method. The approach based on a three-dimensional space-frame structure where the bonds between carbon atoms are considered as connecting load-carrying generalized beam members, while the carbon atoms act as joints of the members, is introduced. The assignment of corresponding material and geometric properties is explained in detail.
