Abstract
Since 2009 the Centre for Reproductive Medicine of the UZ Brussel offers the possibility to women in anticipation of gamete exhaustion (AGE) to cryopreserve their oocytes. In order to outline the profile of these women and to allow women to make a well-informed decision, women were counselled prior to treatment by a gynaecologist and a psychologist. When cryopreserving oocytes women often do this at an advanced reproductive age when fertility has already declined and in a context of Western society where there is a limited timeframe to accomplish important life goals. Therefore women would benefit from campaigns creating more awareness on age related fertility decline and possible ways to counteract.
