12–20 Weeks

  • Cast immobilization:

  • ○ Proximal pole: immobilization in LATSC for approximately 16–20 weeks.

  • ○ Central portion: immobilization in LATSC for approximately 3 months.

  • ○ Distal portion: immobilization in LATSC for approximately 6–8 weeks.

Following Immobilization

  • AROM exercises are initiated to the forearm, wrist, and thumb 6–8 times a day following the prolonged immobilization.

  • A wrist and thumb static splint is fitted with the wrist in neutral to be worn between exercise sessions and at night.

  • PROM exercises, dynamic wrist splinting, and strengthening exercises may be initiated once the fracture is radiographically or clinically healed as determined by the surgeon.
