2–4 Weeks

  • Remove stitches and exchange splint (we prefer thumb spica).

  • PROM and AROM to fingers.

4–8 Weeks

  • Slow and gentle PROM and AROM to wrist.

  • Edema control.

  • Scar desensitization.

  • Splint to be used around the clock except at night or during bathing or exercises.

8–16 Weeks

  • Discontinue splint.

  • Progress AROM.

  • Begin strengthening once fusion indicated by MD.

Discharge Criteria

  • Patient will be independent in dressing, hygiene, and eating progressing to light household activities.
