Abstract

Sigfried Oberndorfer was born in Munich, Germany, in 1879, and died in Istanbul in 1944. After finishing medical school in Munich, and working in the Munich-Schwabing Hospital’s Pathological Institute, he discovered the karzinoid tumors originating from the small intestine. His task as a pathologist at the time offered him a wide scope of diseases to diagnose, but he returned to the karzinoid later in his career. However, he was abruptly forced to flee from the Nazis, in 1933, to Istanbul where he finished his last years as a well-known lecturer and pathologist.

Acknowledgment

This contribution would not have been possible without studying the research performed by Irvin Modlin and collaborators, who by their immense and thorough investigations could bring forward interesting facts about Sigfried Oberndorfer [16, 17]. Also the work done by Joachim Katz made important contributions [18].
