Abstract
Armand Trousseau was born in the early 1800s and was a major figure in clinical medicine in France. He was indeed a great academician and teacher. The clinical sign which has been named for him helps to aid in the diagnosis of hypocalcaemia. His powers of close clinical observation led him to understand the pathophysiology of tetany demonstrated by the temporary vascular occlusion of the upper extremity. His legacy and name lives on in clinical medicine, specifically endocrinology, because of this clinical sign.
