Abstract

The history of vehicle safety is to a large extent the history of passive vehicle safety. Accident research, the laboratory testing of passive safety by means of crash tests, and subsequent development and improvement of technical measures for mitigation of injuries once an accident has occurred, have dominated vehicle safety for decades.
