Abstract

The transgressions of Laguna Paiva (TLP) and Entrerriense-Paranense (TEP) in the Chacoparanense and Salado basin and defined. The micropalaeontological content allowed to know their ages and their main environmental characteristics. A new lithostratigraphic scheme for the region is proposed. Both transgressions were correlated with global eustatic rises and increases of the convergence in the Pacific margin of the continent. Finally, the microfaunas of the TEP in the Península de Valdés are described, and the main environmental features of northern Patagonia during the Miocene are discussed.
