Part of the book series: Topics in Intelligent Engineering and Informatics ((TIEI,volume 10))

Abstract

Summer 2010, IBM Poland and Wrocław University of Technology introduced the first University Cloud Computing Centre in Poland. Additionally a Multipurpose Cloud Computing Centre has been created with the University of Technology being the first academia worldwide in this initiative. Main objectives of the Centre are: usage of the Cloud for education, usage of the Cloud for a Remote Educational Internship program, promotion of research on Cloud technologies and local and international collaboration with other faculties and business partners in cloud services.

A set of tools has been created in order to support the Centre and its mission. The main part is a private cloud platform for education. The provisioning time has been optimized for classrooms and virtual classrooms that is essential especially for technical workshops, instructor led demos and self-paced education.

A dedicated portal for Remote Educational Internship has been built on top of the cloud platform together with a set of activities and personalized tasks for the interns to build corporate skills that are highly demanded on the job market.
