Abstract
Etiologically, obesity may be described as an “epidemiological transition,” a term developed by Omran [1] to describe the shift from mortality caused by acute infectious diseases to death by chronic, noninfectious, degenerative diseases. This transition responds to a major change in the pattern of health and disease influenced by demographic, economic, and sociological factors [2].
