Offshore Energy Structures

Abstract

Wind turbines generate electricity by harnessing the power of the wind. A wind turbine works the opposite of a fan (a fan uses electrical power to work). The energy in the wind turns the blades around a rotor. The rotor is connected to the main shaft, the low-speed shaft. The drive train including the gears increases the rotational speed. The high-speed shaft is connected to a generator which creates electricity.
