Abstract
Using monitoring devices to keep track of your energy consumption makes it much easier to see where energy is consumed and in what amounts. It shows us where we might start taking steps to lower our HEI. Monitoring is what helps us determine if our conservation efforts are a success. But, monitoring devices can also help us determine which appliances are using too much energy. We can actually prioritize our actions based on the energy used by certain appliances. It could be that our second refrigerator in the garage is really not that necessary once we find out how much energy it’s consuming. Removing it could lower our HEI considerably.
