Abstract
Principal properties of a gas discharge plasma and models for their description are the object of this analysis. It is shown that the tau-approximation that is a basis of the gasdynamical plasma model leads to an error in the evaluation of plasma parameters. Self-consistent character of atom excitation in a gas discharge plasma is of importance for its analysis. Many regimes of a gas discharge plasma may be realized depending on plasma parameters and character of plasma processes.
