Abstract
Chapter 8 deals with the Rolandic cortex, which is considered as a separate physiological cortical region, as opposed to parts of the frontal and parietal lobes. It discusses the different strategies associated with the surgical management of epileptic foci in and about the Rolandic cortex. These include peri-Rolandic resection, inferior and superior Rolandic corticectomies, and multiple subpial transections (MSTs). It emphasizes and notes the importance of the use of local anesthesia in any surgery of the Rolandic cortex and finishes with a consideration of the safe limits of resection and some measurements of the eloquent frontal cortex.
