Abstract
This is the only chapter that is not associated with resection of cortical parenchyma; rather, it is involved entirely with the disconnection of a neural pathway—the corpus callosum. The chapter is introduced by a brief introduction, review of its embryology and anatomy, and the history of what drew attention to, and the initial surgery, of the corpus callosum as a surgical management of intractable epilepsy. The considerations of a corpus callosotomy involve a discussion of indications, general surgical technique, the variety of scalp incisions, the incision of the corpus callosum, and potential postoperative complications.
