Abstract
A practical payment scheme for peer to peer video streaming is an essential component toward commercialization of such systems. This component, on the other side, contributes to solve the free-riding problem and challenges on the copyright issue in peer to peer video streaming applications. In this paper, we propose a new peer to peer micropayment scheme for video streaming services, which is called PPayWord and is based on PayWord micropayment scheme. Considering features of video streaming services, we add transferability property to hash chains in PPayWord scheme, which results in payments with high performance and lower broker load. Furthermore, we study workload of peers and brokers together with analyzing PPayWord resistance against different frauds of peers. Performance results of the proposed scheme against PayWord verify its considerable load reduction on the payment system.
