Abstract
It was in 1926 that the most widely used galaxy classification scheme, known as the Hubble classification, was published in the Astrophysical Journal. The author was the American astronomer E. P. Hubble. Several years ago, Dr Allan Sandage took one of us (David) on a walk from his office, to the library at the Carnegie Observatories in Pasadena. What Dr Sandage showed David, left him speechless.
