Abstract
Medical school and residency place unusual demands on your life, both mentally and physically. It is a burden on your entire system and can be truly overwhelming. Unlike the clinical rotations in medical school, you are thrust into the real world of disease, trauma, life, and death, and you are making the medical decisions. Having this responsibility can be both exhilarating and depressing. These extremes of feelings will eventually lessen with time and experience, but that is not to say that they will or should become blunted. As you learn to internalize and, at will, externalize these feelings, you will develop a healthier mind and more mature compassion.

health and a bad memory.”
