Interpretations of WASP-12b Near-UV Observations

Abstract

The near-UV observations of the hot-Jupiter WASP-12b obtained by Fossati et al. have revealed the presence of an asymmetric transit lightcurve that is both more pronounced in the near-UV and starts at an earlier time than the optical lightcurve . These features of the near-UV transit of WASP-12b have intrigued several modellers. In this Chapter, we review the different interpretations of the near-UV observations of the system.
