Abstract

Researchers in the social sciences currently employ a variety of mathematical/computational models for studying complex systems. Despite the diversity of these models, the majority can be grouped into one of four types: equation-based modeling, stochastic (statistical) modeling, computational modeling and network modeling. In the last few years, however, Byrne and colleagues have added a fifth type, called case-based modeling, which we employ in the current chapter.
