Abstract
This chapter is based on first-hand experience and deals with various facets of studies at Roskilde University seen from a student perspective. We describe a number of the crucial elements of studies at Roskilde University, and how they affect the individual student. The main point is that student activities are built on the principles of volunteering, independence and learning in the activity itself, as a basis for making educated choices in the process of acquiring a bachelor and a master degree. This takes place in the context of problem-oriented project work that challenges the individual student to consider his or her role and agenda in each project as well as on a larger scale, when making decisions about a suitable combination of subjects.
