Abstract
Los Angles tests and micro-Deval tests are the two most common tests used for qualifying stones. The test procedures are described in two European standards, in EN 1097-2 and EN 1097-1, respectively. The paper provides an overview of the test results of Hungarian volcanic rocks. These include Eocene and Miocene andesites that are found in central western, northern, north eastern and southern Hungary. These quarries provide various qualities of crushed stones for construction industry, road and railway development. Pliocene and Pleistocene basalts are mostly known from the area of Balaton Highland (central western Hungary), where operating quarries are the main suppliers of railway construction and water armour stones. The application of these tests allows to distinguish various qualities of aggregates and to correlate Los Angeles abrasion values with Micro-Deval abrasion values.
