Abstract

Archaeological evidence, however, has shown that the oldest piece of paper known was found in a tomb near Xian. The inherent long-term stability of artworks made of paper is mainly governed by the manufacturing method and materials used. During display and storage lighting should be monitored carefully and UV filters applied wherever possible. Objects made of paper are best stored in acid-free materials. Pest and insect infestations in paper are as problematic as with textiles. Various analytical methods are available for paper.
