Abstract

The dismantling of the LEP magnets began in 2001 and the baton, in the search for the Higgs field, passed to Fermilab, the US Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory west of Chicago. It was here that the Tevatron, a proton-antiproton collider which was the first to use superconducting bending magnets, has operated since 1989.
