Narratives of Social Justice Educators

Part of the book series: SpringerBriefs in Education ((BRIEFSEDUCAT))

Abstract

This chapter provides an operational definition of social justice education. It gives characteristics of social justice education. Various educational theories such as critical, critical race, postmodern, post-structural, feminist, engaged pedagogy, and multicultural education are analyzed in the context of social justice education. The chapter shows that some of the theories proffered are aligned and some are misaligned to the operational definition of social justice education. In essence, this chapter answers the question: what is social justice education?
