Abstract
Universal design is an accommodation strategy that is compatible with the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) constructs of activity and participation. It is rooted in a rehabilitation paradigm that integrates human factors with social equity approaches into accommodation practices that provide opportunities to achieve both usability and inclusivity for employees with all types and levels of ability across their work life as well as the life of the work. This chapter introduces the reader to universal design principles and accommodation strategies aimed at enhancing work outcomes for employees over time and across abilities.
