Abstract

The main goal of this Ph.D. project was to get a better understanding of adsorption and aggregation processes occurring in colloidal dispersions in the presence of soft matter. Specifically, the adsorption of nonionic surfactants and of globular proteins onto hydrophilic silica nanoparticles was studied. For the proteins studied in the present work their adsorption onto silica nanoparticles caused hetero-flocculation in a wide pH range, which was also studied by a combination of different experimental techniques.
