Abstract
The Chapter describes the compounds, which have carbonyl functional group, aldehydes, ketones, and carboxylic acids. The most characteristic reactions of these compounds, additions to the unsaturated carbon atom, oxidations, and reductions are explained within the theory of reaction mechanisms. The basic theory of acidity of organic compounds is represented in the section about carboxylic acids.
