Abstract
The basic kinetic equations for points, bodies, and continua are immediately valid for free systems. These basic equations allow the calculation of motions when the forces and torques are given, or the resulting forces and torques can be determined from the motions. We can thus on the one hand calculate Kepler’s first law from the Newton equations and the force of gravity, while on the other hand Newton’s law of gravity can be obtained from the motion of the planets.
