Biopsy Diagnosis of Peripheral Neuropathy

Abstract

Guillain–Barré syndrome, the most common cause of acute–subacute neuropathy, has an incidence of 1.5–2 cases per 100,000 throughout the world. GBS is characterized by the development of a rapidly progressive paralytic syndrome, and although often thought of as a motor disease, sensory and autonomic symptoms may occur before motor dysfunction. Despite the presence of several variants, most cases are so typical that the diagnosis can be made clinically with a high degree of confidence.
