Abstract

To reduce the power consumption of the wake-up receiver the LNA is removed from the receiver chain, making the mixer the first sub-block after the antenna. The LNA can be removed, since the transmission distance is small in a body area network. The design of a mixer-first receiver is analyzed in depth in this chapter. A closed-form model is derived describing the transducer power gain and noise figure of the passive mixer. Additionally, an automatic frequency control loop is presented and two low-power FSK demodulators are discussed.
