Abstract
The use of endorectal ultrasonography is becoming increasingly popular for evaluating rectal tumours. It is valuable in differentiating rectal adenomas from carcinomas, in preoperative staging of rectal cancer and in the follow-up after resection of rectal tumours. Use of endorectal ultrasonography plays an essential role in tailor-made treatment of rectal tumours, and new ultrasound-based methods might further increase the value of endorectal ultrasound evaluation.
