Abstract

The historical classification systems of MDS, which include the FAB system, and the more recently introduced WHO classification are less well accepted in children than in adults. The most current WHO classification from 2008 concerning myeloid and lymphoid neoplasms represents a consensus classification utilizing clinical features, morphology, immunophenotype, and primarily genetic characteristics.
