Abstract

Although recognized for hundreds of years, halophyte definitions and classifications still represent a matter of debate. This chapter tries to review and comment on several definitions of halophytes, taking into considerations different aspects related to halophyte biology. A system to harmonize the major classifications from Romanian literature is also proposed in this chapter.
