Abstract
Astronomy and religion have been intimate partners for far longer than humans have been recording their histories. Each and every day, ancient peoples needed to find enough food to nourish their bodies. Each and every evening by sundown, they needed to shelter themselves in secure places where they could hope to sleep in safety through the perilous hours of darkness. At sunrise, they would arise and work again to obtain sustenance for themselves. Another sunset followed by another sunrise meant another day still alive, another day during which mothers could give birth to babies, children could grow bigger and stronger, and young adults could be taught the ways of the tribe so that they might lead their communities through future days and nights.
